Young Investigator Programme in Biotechnology (YIPB) 2025

The Young Investigator’s Programme in Biotechnology (YIPB), implemented by the Kerala Biotechnology Commission (KBC) under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (KSCSTE), is a research support programme designed to provide young scientists with the opportunity to pursue innovative research ideas in biotechnology. This initiative is meant to support post-doctoral researchers and young scientists in emerging fields such as medical, agriculture, environmental, marine, and industrial biotechnology. The programme offers grants and fellowship support to help propel the research projects forward and foster the growth of the biotech industry.

Benefits

  • Young Scientists without fellowship/salary are eligible for a fellowship of ₹45,000/- plus 10% HRA per month, in addition to the support for travel, contingency, consumables, and minor equipment.
  • A Principal Investigator having a regular position can seek manpower.
  • Maximum support up to ₹30 lakhs (excluding overhead charges @ 10% of the project cost subject to a ceiling of ₹ 1.0 lakh) for a period not exceeding three years.

Eligibility

1.The applicant should possess a Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences.
2. The applicant should possess three years of post-doctoral experience in Biotechnology.
3. The applicant should be less than 40 years of age.
Note: Five years of relaxation in age would be available to scientists belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Women, and Physically Handicapped categories.

Application Process

Stage 1: Pre-Proposal Submission and Assessment

  • Step 1: Submit Pre-Proposal online at the time of call for proposals.
  • Step 2: The pre-proposal will be critically reviewed and analyzed by experts. Only 50% of the proposals that
  • are rated above 60% will go to the next stage.
  • Step 3: Peer review against criteria such as innovation, relevance, and feasibility.

Stage 2: Evaluation and Submission of Detailed Proposal

  • Step 1: Submit detailed proposal on notification.
  • Step 2: The proposal will be thoroughly examined and forwarded for examination by 5 nationally renowned experts.
  • Step 3: PAC will evaluate the proposal and advise approval on the basis of objectives, scope, and societal context.
