The Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) Summer Internship Programme was launched by the Department of Space, Government of India. The scheme aims to provide a platform for highly motivated students and teachers to interact with PRL’s scientists, gaining exposure to the lab’s research areas and facilities. Participants will work on projects in fundamental science, technology, and their societal applications. The program offers hands-on experience in real research projects, helping young talents shape their career paths.

Eligibility Criteria
For Students
- Must be a citizen of India.
- Must be pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate studies from a recognized Indian or foreign university.
- Recently graduated students (within 6 months from the date of award of the degree) seeking internship opportunities are also eligible.
- Must have at least 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.32 (on a scale of 10) at all levels.
- Must belong to disciplines such as:
- Optics, Laser Physics, Space Physics, Geology, Geophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Meteorology, Chemistry, Ocean Sciences, and related fields.
- Preference is given to candidates with KVPY/DST INSPIRE fellowships.
- Candidates should have a good understanding of basic physics and mathematics.
For Teachers
- Must have an academic background in Physics, Applied Physics, Astronomy, Space Physics, Geology, or related fields.
- Must have at least five years of teaching experience at the graduate/postgraduate level.
- Must have demonstrated interest in research through publications or ongoing projects.
- Must hold a PhD degree.
Application Process
Online Application Steps
- Review the “List of Projects” available on the PRL website and contact the respective project supervisor for approval.
- Obtain project approval from the PRL supervisor, who will notify the Dean’s office.
- The Dean’s office will then share the official application form.
- Complete the application form, attach self-attested copies of required documents, and submit the form as instructed.
- Request an acknowledgment receipt from the concerned authority. The receipt should include the submission date, time, and a unique identification number (if applicable).

- Selected participants will receive a confirmation email with further instructions.
- Offline and online internship options will be based on the supervisor’s decision.
