The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is implementing a scheme of Internship for Post-graduate/Research Students of Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/Operations Research/ Economics/ Demography or any of the applied fields of Statistics of recognized Universities/Institutions during 2025-26. The scheme is as follows:
Objectives of the Internship
- To familiarize students with Official Statistical Systems in India.
- To create awareness about data collection, processing, analysis, publication, and dissemination in government statistical operations.
- To introduce students to the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) and Subordinate Statistical Service (SSS).
- To motivate students to pursue a career in statistics.
Number of Internships Available
A total of 282 internships will be offered for 2024-25.
Benefits
Stipend & Remuneration
- Interns will receive a stipend of ₹10,000 (consolidated) at ₹5,000 per month, paid after successful completion of the internship.
- Stipend payments will be transferred electronically through Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB)/Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS).
- Students interning at NSSO (FOD) Zonal/Regional Offices will get an additional ₹250 per day for up to 10 days for field visits.
Facilities Provided
- Office space, intercom facility, and computer with internet will be provided.
- Interns can access study material in the office/library and interact with officials.
- Guides/Nodal officers will be assigned for mentorship.
- Internship Completion Certificate will be awarded after successful completion.
Exclusions & Additional Notes
- No TA/DA (Travel/Accommodation) allowance will be provided.
- Interns must make their own arrangements for lodging, boarding, and transportation.
- If an intern leaves before completing 2 months, they will not receive a stipend or certificate.
- The internship does not guarantee a job in the Government of India.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- He/She must be pursuing Post-Graduation/Research in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Demography, or related fields from a recognized College/University/Research Institute.
- The internship period is for 2 months from the date of joining.
Application Process
Step 1: Registration
- Register on the National Career Service (NCS) Portal and note the NCS ID for application.
Step 2: Download & Fill Application Form
- Download the application form in MS Excel format for Group A or Group B from the official website.
- Fill out the form carefully in MS Excel.
- Print the completed application, affix a passport-sized photo, and sign the undertaking.
Step 3: Email Submission
- Send the duly filled and signed application form along with self-attested documents via email to the respective nodal offices/selection points (refer to Annex-I & II in the guidelines).

- Applications without the filled Excel form will be rejected.

Selection Process
- Selection is based on academic merit, specifically aggregate marks obtained in graduation (excluding qualifying subjects).
- Internship location preference is considered but not guaranteed.
- Final selection list will be published on the MoSPI website.
