The “Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science-II (SPYTiS-II)” is designed to provide financial and technical assistance to talented young students with innovative ideas in scientific and technological pursuits. Under this scheme, students from polytechnic colleges and those enrolled in undergraduate-level courses in colleges across Kerala are selected annually to undertake a science project. Financial support is provided to ensure successful completion of the project. The grant is released to the Head of the institution after project completion, based on submission of the signed terms and conditions, final project report, Statement of Expenditure (SE), and Utilization Certificate (UC). The grant must be used solely for the sanctioned purpose. Awardees are encouraged to participate in a Science Talent Fair, Children Science Congress, or Kerala Science Congress organized by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE) to present their projects and findings.

Benefits

  • Financial Support:

  • Who Can Apply:
    Students enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate-level courses (BSc level) in Kerala are eligible to apply.

  • Group Formation:
    A maximum of 5 students can form a project group.

  • Proposal Limits by Institution:

    • Maximum of 10 proposals per college
    • Maximum of 4 proposals per college/university department
    • Maximum of 2 proposals per Principal Investigator from a college

Exclusions

  • Proposals from students enrolled in professional courses are not eligible under SPYTiS-II. Such students should apply under the Student Project scheme for financial assistance.

  • Submission Mode: Offline

  • Process:

    • Proposals in the prescribed format are invited annually, generally in the month of June, through advertisements on the KSCSTE website and in dailies.
    • Completed applications, duly signed and forwarded by the Head of the Institution, must reach the Director, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Sasthra Bhavan, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram – 695004 on or before the deadline.
  • Important Notes:

    • Institutions are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
    • Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
    • The decision of KSCSTE regarding the selection of projects is final.
    • Three copies of the application, along with the supporting documents, must be sent to KSCSTE.
    • The Head of the Institution must ensure that the number of proposals forwarded does not exceed the specified limits; otherwise, none of the proposals from that institution will be considered.
    • Financial assistance is disbursed only after successful project completion, subject to submission of signed terms and conditions, final report, and financial statements (audited SE and UC) within three months of project completion.
