Children of workers in Beedi, Iron Ore Mines, Manganese Ore & Chrome Ore Mines (IOMC), Limestone & Dolomite Mines (LSDM), Mica Mines, and the film industry can now receive financial aid for their education through a scholarship program launched by the Ministry of Labor and Employment’s Directorate of Social Welfare. Each student receives a scholarship worth between ₹1,000 and ₹25,000 year.
The scheme operates through a DBT system that ensures the funds are transferred to the bank account of the student. It has application and processing by the National Scholarship Portal.

Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Requirement
- The applicant must have passed the last qualifying examination on the first attempt.
- Students promoted to the next class are eligible to apply.
- Admission must be in a recognized Indian institution for general, technical, medical, engineering, or agricultural courses.
- Parent’s Employment Eligibility
- One parent must be a Beedi/IOMC/LSDM/Cine worker with at least six months of service.
- Contract and Home-Based (Gharkhata) workers are also eligible.
- Income Limit
- Beedi Workers: Family income should not exceed ₹10,000 per month.
- Mine Workers:
- Manual, unskilled, skilled, and clerical mineworkers are eligible, regardless of wages.
- Supervisory/managerial mineworkers must not exceed ₹10,000 per month.
- Cine Workers:
- Income not exceeding ₹8,000 per month, OR
- Lump sum payments not exceeding ₹1,00,000 in total remuneration.
- Bank Account Requirement
- Each student must have a separate bank account (joint accounts must have the student’s name first).
- If multiple siblings apply, each child must provide a unique bank account.
- Other Conditions
- The educational institute must be government or government-recognized.
- Students receiving other scholarships or stipends are not eligible under this scheme.
Exclusions (Who is NOT Eligible?)
- Students who apply with false statements.
- Students who discontinue studies after receiving the scholarship.
- Students who change their course or institution without prior approval.
- Students who fail to show academic progress or engage in misconduct.
- If a student’s parent ceases to be a Beedi/Mine/Cine worker, they lose eligibility.
- Students pursuing a second degree in the same academic stage (e.g., B.Sc. after B.Com.).
- Students completing one professional course and applying for another (e.g., LLB after B.Ed.).
- Students enrolled in correspondence courses.
Application Process
Online Application Steps
- Prepare Required Documents :Have soft copies of all necessary documents ready for upload.
- Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
- Go to: www.scholarships.gov.in
- Click on “New Registration”.
- Read and accept the terms to proceed.
- Complete Registration
- Fill in the registration form with required details.
- Click “Register” and note down the Application ID and Password (sent via SMS).
- Login & Fill the Application Form
- Go to: Login Page
- Enter your Application ID & Password, solve the CAPTCHA, and Login.
- Verify via OTP (received on registered mobile number).
- Reset the password, if required.
- Go to the “Applicant’s Dashboard” and select “Application Form”.
- Upload Required Documents
