Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG): Empowering Out-of-School Girls Nutrition, Health, Education

A support scheme by Ministry of Women & Child Development enabling self-development and empowerment of out-of-school adolescent girls, and improving their nutritional, health & hygiene status.
The scheme aims at supporting out of school AGs to successfully transition back to formal schooling or bridge learning / skill training. Upgrade their home-based skills and life skills. Provide information/guidance about existing public services such as Primary Health Centers, Rural Hospitals/CHCs, Post Office, Bank, Police Station, etc.
Scheme for Adolescent Girls – SAG is implemented using the platform of Anganwadi Services of Umbrella ICDS Scheme through Anganwadi Centers (AWCs).

Benefits

  1. Nutrition Component:
    • Take Home Ration or Hot Cooked Meal: Out-of-school girls receive nutrition support at ₹9.50 per day, providing 600 calories, 18–20 grams of protein, and the recommended daily intake of micronutrients for 300 days in a year.
    • The amount includes the cost of micronutrient fortification.
  2. Non-Nutrition Component:
    • Iron Folic Acid (IFA) Supplementation.
    • Health Check-ups and Referral Services.
    • Nutrition & Health Education (NHE).
    • Counseling/Guidance on family welfare, ARSH (Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health), child care practices.
    • Life Skills Education and guidance on accessing public services.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be female.
  • The age of the applicant must be between 11 and 14 years.

Application Process

Offline

  • Out-of-school adolescent girls aged 11-14 years are identified through a Base Line Survey conducted by the Anganwadi Workers (AWW).
  • The AWW visits households in their area to gather information about eligible girls.
  • Benefits are provided through the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) once the girls are identified.
