The RMEWF – Financial Assistance for Vocational Training of Widows of Ex-Servicemen is a scheme by the Ministry of Defence aimed at helping widows of Ex-Servicemen to settle in life through vocational training.
Eligible widows can choose vocational training courses based on their education level and aptitude. The training can be pursued at:
- Vocational training institutes run by Rajya Sainik Board/Zonal Sainik Board
- State-run ITIs
- Private training institutes of repute such as NIIT, etc.

- Financial assistance of ₹20,000/- (one-time aid) upon successful completion of vocational training.

- Applicant must be a widow of an Ex-Serviceman of rank up to Havildar or equivalent.
- Applicant must have successfully completed the vocational training.

Application Process
Online Application Steps
- Visit the official website of Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat (KSBS): https://ksb.gov.in/
- Click on “Register” on the homepage.
- Fill out the registration form with necessary details.
- Upload your photograph and click “Save”. The login credentials will be sent to the registered email ID.
- Click the activation link in your email to log into the KSB portal.
- Enter username, password, and verification code, then click “Login”.
- Select the scheme name and start filling the application form.
- Upload attested copies of supporting documents (attested by the respective Zila Sainik Welfare Officer – ZSWO).
- Submit the online application. ZSWO will verify the application and schedule an appointment for further verification.
- After successful verification, ZSWO will recommend the application and forward the hard copy and soft copy to KSB through Rajya Sainik Boards (RSBs) for final processing.
Processing at KSB Secretariat
- Once the application reaches KSB, the Section-in-Charge verifies the details and uploads the approved applications for JD (Welfare) approval.
- Applications are sanctioned quarterly.
Payment Procedure
- Once the application is approved, it is processed for payment by the Welfare Department.
- The Welfare Department verifies the service number, name, bank details, IFS code, and account number.
- The payment is made via Electronic Clearing System (ECS) directly to the widow’s bank account.

- Visit the KSB portal: https://ksb.gov.in/
- Click on “Status of Application” on the homepage.
- Enter DAK ID and verification code, then click “Search” to track the status.
Documents Required
The following documents must be attested by the ZSWO and uploaded:
- Complete Service Discharge Certificate/Book.
- Copy of Widow I-Card.
- Certificate from the institute confirming completion of vocational training.
- Certificate from ZSWO verifying that the widow is gainfully employed after training.
- Bank account details (only in PNB/SBI) with IFS Code.
