The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for the Wards/Widows of Central Police Force (CPF) Personnel was introduced in the academic year 2006-07 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Objective:
The scheme aims to encourage higher education for the wards and widows of CPF personnel who have:
- Died in harness
- Been disabled while on duty
- Received Gallantry Awards
Scope of the Scholarship:
- 5000 scholarships available annually, including:
- 910 scholarships for CPFs (MHA-controlled)
- 90 scholarships for Railway Protection Force (RPF, Ministry of Railways)
- Courses covered: Technical and professional courses in Engineering, Medicine, IT, Management, and other disciplines

Academic Requirement:
- Minimum 60% marks in Class 12 (10+2) for initial sanction.
- Minimum 50% marks in each subsequent year for renewal.
Eligible Courses:
- Professional degree programs only (Medical, Engineering, Dental, Veterinary, MBA, MCA, etc.)
- Courses must be approved by AICTE, MCI, or other government regulatory bodies.
Other Conditions:
- Open to widows and unmarried wards of CPF personnel.
- Marriage/re-marriage after selection does not disqualify the candidate.
- Only two children per family can receive the scholarship.
Application Process
Offline Application Process:
Application Deadline: 30th November each year
Submission: The applicant must submit the application to the concerned CPF headquarters.
Verification:
- Force HQs will scrutinize applications and send selected ones to Welfare & Rehabilitation Board (WARB), CPFs, CGO Complex, New Delhi by 15th December.
Final Selection: - WARB prepares the final list and forwards it to MHA by 31st December.
- Selected candidates are informed directly by WARB and MHA.
Important Notes:
- Direct applications to WARB or MHA will not be entertained.
- Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will be rejected.
- Applications must be verified by CPF headquarters before submission.
- Two self-addressed envelopes (27×12 cm) with stamps must be attached for acknowledgment.
- Scholarships will be disbursed via direct bank transfer (ECS mode preferred).
- The total financial assistance from this and any other scheme should not exceed the total education costs.
- If false information is provided, the candidate will be disqualified and required to refund the amount.
