The scheme targets weavers engaged in both handloom and power loom sectors whose livelihoods were severely impacted during the pandemic. Managed by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, the scheme aims to protect and promote the interests of these small textile businesses by providing direct financial assistance.
Benefits
- Financial Assistance:
- Originally, beneficiaries received an annual assistance of ₹2,000/- through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their registered bank accounts.
- For the fiscal year 2022-23, this amount was increased to ₹5,000/- per beneficiary.
- Objective:
- The scheme is part of the broader Covid Relief Package and seeks to improve the livelihood of destitute weavers and support the continuity of their businesses.
Eligibility Criteria
- Residency:
- The beneficiary must be a resident of Karnataka with a valid resident certificate.
- Occupational Requirement:
- The scheme is open to all weavers and financially distressed workers engaged in the handloom/power loom industry and related ancillary activities (e.g., cotton, wool, silk).
- Banking:
- Prospective beneficiaries must possess an active bank account.
- Registration:
- Only those weavers who are successfully registered on the state’s Seva Sindhu portal are eligible to receive benefits.
