The Nanda Gaura Yojana is a scheme by the Uttarakhand state government aimed at empowering the girl child from birth until her marriage by providing financial assistance. The primary objective is to prevent female feticide, stop child marriage, reduce gender inequality, and enable self-reliance through higher education. Benefits are extended to eligible families who are permanent residents of Uttarakhand. To avail the benefits, a joint bank account is opened in a nationalized bank with zero balance and no clearance. This joint account is opened with the mother (or with the father if the mother is not alive, or with a guardian if both parents are not alive) and must be linked with the Aadhaar number of the beneficiaries.
