Agriculture is the backbone of Assam’s economy, with over 70% of the population depending on it. Due to challenges such as low productivity, fragmented land holdings, and frequent floods, many farmers struggle with low incomes. To boost productivity and increase income, the Assam government launched the Mukhya Mantri Sa Sajuli Yojana in FY 2018-19. The scheme provides a financial assistance of ₹5000 per farmer through Direct Benefit Transfer to help procure scientific farm tools. The selection of beneficiaries is managed by a District Level Committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (or Principal Secretaries in BTAD and Autonomous Districts), under the supervision of the State-Level Monitoring Committee.
