Telangana Government launched yet another pioneering initiative ‘KCR Nutrition Kits’, which is aimed at reducing Anemia and improving hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. Each kit contains a kg of Nutritional Mix Powder, a kg of Dates (Khajoor), three bottles of Iron Syrup, 500 grams of Ghee, and a Cup.
The kits were distributed to pregnant women in nine districts of Telangana where the prevalence of anemia was high. The programme was launched by Health Minister T Harish Rao at Kamareddy on 21st December 2022.
Objectives
- To enhance the health status of newborn children in Telangana.
- To overcome problems of malnutrition and diseases in newborns.
- Early intervention for genetic and congenital disorders so that proper treatment and care can be given.

- Screening and Treatment: The kit will help identify the health defects in time and receive immediate treatment.

Eligibility
- The schemes are applicable for all newborns in Telangana State.
- Age Criterion: Till age of 2 months.
- The scheme is available to residents of Telangana only.
Exclusions
- Non-resident families of Telangana are excluded.
- Children who are older than 2 months are not eligible for this scheme.
Application Process
- Beneficiaries are identified through Anganwadi centers or District Child Protection Officers’ offices.
- No special application is needed; eligibility is based on social and economic assessments by the Anganwadi workers.
- The government provides kits to eligible families identified through a survey conducted by Anganwadi workers.
