Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) 2025-26— DBT is the Implementing Agency and Administered by Department of Biotechnology (DBT on a flagship program 2025-26.
In this program, Indian students pursuing a Ph.D. in biotechnology and natural sciences (approved by the government) in UG-recognized university or research institute are allowed to get some amount of aid.

Application Process

Step 1: Qualify the Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET)
- BET is a national-level entrance exam conducted by DBT to select candidates for the DBT-JRF program.
- The exam is held once a year (typically in June).
- Candidates must have a master’s degree in biotechnology or a related field and a valid GATE or NET score.
Step 2: Apply for the DBT-JRF Program Online
- Online application for the DBT-JRF can be sought by candidates qualifying BET
- Online application portal opens in July and closes at end of August
- One has to register a DBT official website and submit the application online as an individual.
- Required documents to be uploaded like BET exam scorecard, research proposal, NOC(if any) etc.
Step 3: Attend the Interview
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview conducted by a panel of experts.
- The interview will assess:
- Research Proposal
- Biotechnology and life sciences knowledge
- Research interests and career goals
Step 4: Check the Final Selection List
- The final selection list is released a few weeks after the interview.
- Candidates can check their results on the DBT website.
