The J.C. Bose Fellowship is awarded to active scientists in recognition of their outstanding performance in research and development. This scientist-specific and highly selective fellowship is meant for Indian nationals working in institutions across India.
Duration of Fellowship
- The fellowship is awarded initially for five years.
- If the fellow superannuates during the fellowship, it may be continued if a host institution agrees to host the fellowship.
- The tenure can be extended for another 5 years based on a rigorous assessment of the scientist’s research contributions.
- At least 25% of applicants seeking an extension will not receive it.
Benefits
- Fellowship Amount: ₹25,000 per month in addition to the scientist’s regular salary.
- Research Grant: ₹15 lakhs per annum.
- Overhead Grant: ₹1 lakh per annum to the host institution.
Eligibility
- The candidate must be an active scientist with a record of outstanding performance, including:
- SS Bhatnagar Prize winners.
- Fellows of Science Academies (including engineering, agriculture, and medicine).
- The scientist must be in service at the time of nomination.
- The nominee must be an Indian national working in Indian institutions or universities.
- The fellowship can be availed up to the age of 68 years.
- The nominee must not be availing of any other fellowship (including personal fellowship amount and research grant) from any government sources.
