The scheme “Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)” is a component of the “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)”, which is a flagship programme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The scheme aims to attract students to study basic and natural Science subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and pursue research as a career by providing scholarships to interested and deserving students. Under the SHE component, 12,000 scholarships (From the SHE-2017 batch onwards), each valued at ₹ 80,000/- are announced annually to students pursuing Bachelor and Masters level courses in Basic and Natural Science areas.

Tenure

  1. Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years, starting from the 1st year B.Sc., B.S., Int. M.Sc./Int.M.S. or until the completion of the course, whichever is earlier.
  2. Continuation of the scholarship for the selected candidates is based on good academic performance in the examinations conducted by the University and upon the recommendation by the Head of the Institution.

The INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) offers the following benefits:

  • Amount: ₹80,000/- per annum
  • Monthly Scholarship: ₹5,000/- (₹60,000 annually)
  • Summertime Mentorship Grant: ₹20,000/- annually for summer research projects.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the INSPIRE Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Top 1% in Class XII:
    • The applicant must be within the top 1% of students in their Class XII examination from any State/Central Education Board in India, pursuing courses in natural and basic sciences (B.Sc., B.S., M.Sc., M.S.).
  2. JEE/AIPMT Rank Holders:
    • Applicants who have secured ranks in JEE (IIT) or AIPMT (within the top 10,000 ranks) and are pursuing undergraduate courses in basic/natural sciences.
  3. Integrated M.S. Courses:
    • Students pursuing Integrated M.S. courses in Natural and Basic Sciences at institutions such as IISERs, NISER, and the Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Basic Sciences, among others, are eligible.
  4. KVPY:
    • Students who have been selected under the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) and are pursuing Bachelor/Master level courses in Natural Sciences.
  5. NTSE and Olympiad Medallists:
    • Students who are NTSE scholars, JBNSTS scholars, or International Olympiad Medallists pursuing Bachelor/Master level courses in Natural Sciences are also eligible.

Duration:

  • The scholarship is provided for a maximum period of five years, beginning from the first year of the B.Sc., B.S., Integrated M.Sc./M.S. or until the completion of the course, whichever is earlier.
  • Continuation of the scholarship depends on the student maintaining good academic performance and fulfilling the recommendations from the head of the institution.

Online Registration:

  1. Login to the INSPIRE Portal:

    • The selected candidates will receive a Provisional Offer Letter on their portal. They must download and accept the letter to confirm their scholarship.
