The Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme, run by the Ministry of Culture through the Zonal Cultural Centres, is designed to preserve and promote rare and vanishing art forms in classical, folk, or tribal traditions. The scheme revives the traditional guru-shishya (teacher-disciple) relationship, enabling young talents to learn under the guidance of eminent gurus, thereby ensuring the continuity of traditional arts.

Benefits

Appointment and Honorarium:

Eligibility

For Gurus:

Must be an Indian citizen and an eminent practitioner or resourceful person in the specified field.

Age should be between 45 and 70 years.

Must be physically and mentally sound to manage the Guru Shishya Parampara Kendra.

Preference is given to widow/divorcee women in cases where the applicant is a guru or a shishya.
Application Process

Offline Process:
A Selection Committee, formed by the Department of Art & Culture/Cultural Affairs of the concerned states, will:-
Scrutinize applications and conduct interviews, including performance or demonstration tests.

Recommend one candidate per art form to the Director, North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) for final selection.

Post-Selection:
The selected guru will appoint an accompanist and four shishyas for a one-year term. The selected candidates must submit their biodata, passport-sized photographs, bank details, etc., to the NEZCC.
