Launched by the Director Social Defence, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Gujarat, the Disable Marriage Scheme provides financial assistance to support marriages involving persons with disabilities. The scheme covers two scenarios:
- When two individuals with disabilities marry each other, and
- When a non-disabled person marries someone with a disability.
This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden associated with marriage for persons with disabilities (Divyang) and promote social inclusion.
Benefits
- For Couples with Disabilities:
When both spouses are persons with disabilities, the couple is entitled to a total assistance of ₹1,00,000 (₹50,000 per person). - For Mixed Marriages:
If a non-disabled person marries a person with a disability, the individual with a disability is eligible to receive assistance of ₹50,000.
Eligibility
- Age Requirements:
- The girl must be above 18 years.
- The boy must be above 21 years.
- One-Time Benefit:
- The benefit is available only once per couple.
- Application Timeframe:
- The application must be submitted within two years of the marriage.
- Disability Percentage Requirements:
Benefits are determined based on the percentage of disability as follows:- 40% or more: Applicable for conditions such as blindness, low vision, hereditary muscular dystrophy, cured leprosy, acid attack victims, amblyopia, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, etc.
- 71% to 100%: For hearing impairment.
- 50% or more: For chronic neurological conditions, generalized trauma, malignant haemorrhage, tremor, muscular rigidity, intellectual disability, chronic anemia, mental illness, special learning disabilities, speech and language impairment, neuro-developmental impairment, and multiple disabilities.
- Interstate Marriages:
In the case of a differently-abled applicant marrying a differently-abled person from another state, both spouses are eligible for benefits upon production of the prescribed proof. Additionally, the District Social Defence Officer must obtain an undertaking that the female beneficiary has not received similar assistance from her state.
Application Process
Online Process via the e-Samaj Kalyan Portal
- Visit the Portal:
- User Registration:
- Under the ‘Citizen Login’ tab, click on New User – Please Register Here.
- Enter your Full Name (as per Aadhaar), Gender, Date of Birth, Aadhaar Number, Email ID, Caste, etc., then click Register.
- Login and Update Profile:
- After successful registration, log in with your User ID and Password.
- Click on User Profile to update your details and then click Update.
- Apply for the Scheme:
- Select the Disable Marriage Scheme from the home page to open the application form.
- Fill in all mandatory details and upload all relevant documents.
- Submit Application:
- Agree with the Terms & Conditions and click Save Application.
- Submit the application form and print a copy for future reference. Note down the application number to track the status.
Note:
- If the couple resides in different districts, the application must be submitted in the district of permanent residence of the Divyang couple after marriage. The District Social Defence Officer of the approving district must inform the officer in the other district regarding the approval.

- Attested copy of the Disability Certificate from the Civil Surgeon (for the girl and/or boy)
- Proof of Residence (one of: Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Driving License, Aadhaar Card, Election Card)

- Wedding Photographs of the couple
- Marriage Registration Certificate
- Copy of the first page of the bank passbook or a cancelled cheque
