The Government of Puducherry has introduced the Scheme “Development of Choir Industries” to promote and develop the coir and coir-based industry within the Union Territory. This initiative aims to boost employment opportunities by training rural poor in producing various coir products using coconut fiber.

Objective:
To develop the coir and coir-based industry, impart training to the rural poor in producing coir products, and generate employment. -
Training Details:
- Course Focus: Training in coir rope and coir-mat making using coconut fiber.
- Duration: 6 months.
Benefits
- For Trainees:
A monthly stipend of Rs. 1,500 per trainee. - For Trainers:
- Honorarium of Rs. 300 per month per trainee (up to a maximum of Rs. 3,000 per month).
- Compensation for wastage of raw materials of Rs. 200 per month per trainee (up to a maximum of Rs. 2,000 per month).
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a native of the Puducherry Union Territory or a continuous resident for the past three years.
- Already trained candidates are not eligible to apply.

Advertisement and Publicity:
The District Industries Centre will release an advertisement in local daily newspapers inviting eligible applicants to apply. -
Obtain Application Form:
Applicants must request a hard copy of the prescribed proforma from the concerned authority. Note that applications submitted through any organization or association will not be accepted. -
Supporting Documents:
Applicants should support their application with:- A certificate from the District Collector/Dy. Commissioner certifying the applicant’s financial position and confirming that they are not receiving financial assistance from any other source.
- An age certificate from the appropriate authority.
- Alternatively, the applicant may furnish the required income and age certificates in the form of an affidavit declared before a First Class Magistrate.

Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the supporting documents to the General Manager, District Industries Centre, Pondicherry.
