Launched on 15th August 2022, the “Bima Yojana – Direct Benefit to Artisan (BYDBTA)” is a social welfare scheme under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to senior and award-winning artisans to ensure their financial security and promote the growth of the handicraft sector.

- Financial Support:
The scheme offers assistance in the form of a monthly allowance, a lump sum grant, or both, ensuring that the total benefit does not exceed ₹8,000 per month.
Eligibility
- Artisan Criteria:
Applicants must be master craftspersons who have received prestigious honors such as Shilp Guru Awards, National Awards, Merit Certificates, or similar accolades. - Age Requirement:
The applicant must be 60 years or above (with relaxation available for artisans with disabilities). - Income Limit:
The applicant’s annual income should not exceed ₹1,00,000. - Exclusivity:
The applicant should not be receiving similar financial assistance from other sources. - Annual Compliance:
Applicants are required to submit an income certificate and an affidavit annually, countersigned by a 1st Class Magistrate.
Application Process
Offline
- Registration:
Artisans registered with the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and holding a valid photo identity card should obtain the application form. - Submission:
Submit the duly filled application form, along with all required documents, at the nearest Handicrafts Service Centre for recommendation or directly to the bank for availing a MUDRA loan. - Acknowledgment:
Ensure to request and obtain a receipt or acknowledgment detailing the date, time, and any unique identification number.
