The AICTE-Lilavati Award, launched by the Ministry of Education, is designed to recognize the efforts of AICTE-approved institutions in promoting gender equality and women empowerment. This initiative provides a platform for stakeholders—especially girl students—to showcase innovative solutions addressing prevalent issues such as gender discrimination, illiteracy, unemployment, nutritional disparities, maternal mortality, and human rights. It also acknowledges successful contributions in the fields of women’s emancipation and empowerment.
Objectives
- Awareness Creation:
- Promote awareness on sanitation, hygiene, health, and nutrition through indigenous knowledge.
- Educate women on literacy, employment, technology, financial literacy, and access to government services.
- Women & Girl Child Development:
- Enhance the development of the girl child and adolescents.
- Address the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition and promote overall health, including sexual and reproductive health.
- Policy and Self-Reliance:
- Inform marginalized women about Central and State Government policies and schemes.
- Encourage self-reliance and entrepreneurial skills among rural women to foster self-employment.
- Community Empowerment:
- Empower communities through participatory approaches and mobilization.
- Promote sports, self-defense, and vocational training to broaden career options for young girls.
- Technology and Innovation:
- Leverage innovative technologies to enhance women empowerment in sectors like handicrafts, weaving, and digital business promotion.
Targeted Sub-Themes
For the 2021-22 cycle, the award invites applications (in the form of a short video clip not exceeding 4-5 minutes) showcasing impactful interventions under the following sub-themes:

Women and Adolescent Health:
Focus on nutrition, maternal mortality, reproductive and sexual health, prenatal/postnatal care, mental health, and child care. -
Self Defense:
Initiatives for girl child safety, domestic violence prevention, workplace harassment awareness, and confidence-building programs. -
Environment, Sanitation & Hygiene:
Projects promoting clean surroundings, environmental conservation, and home hygiene. -
Literacy and Life Skills:
Efforts to improve basic education (both formal and non-formal), digital literacy, and functional education, along with reducing school dropouts through enhanced school facilities. -
Women Entrepreneurship:
Initiatives to link women to credit, microfinance, and business opportunities while fostering entrepreneurial and self-employment skills. -
Legal Awareness:
Programs aimed at informing women about their rights and duties, and promoting gender equality in society and the workplace. -
Technology for Women:
Use of innovative technology to support women empowerment in sectors such as handicrafts, weaving, and digital commerce. -
Women Innovators (Rural/Urban):
Efforts in identifying, training, and promoting women innovators and supporting patent filing.

Eligibility
- Team Composition:
- Eligible teams can comprise students, faculty, or a mix of both from AICTE-approved technical institutions or deemed universities.
- The team must have undertaken remarkable interventions in one of the sub-themes over the past two years.
- The maximum team size is 5 members, with a minimum of 2 women members.

- The institute will receive an activation email.
- Login:

- Log in using your Email and Password.
- Complete your Institute Details and Head of Institute (HOI) details.
- Application Form:
- Click on the ‘Faculty’ tab to view faculty details.
- Under ‘Application Form 1’, fill in all required institute details, review the information, and submit.
- Proceed to ‘Application Form II’:
- Click ‘Create New Application’, select the appropriate Theme and Category.
- Fill in the institute and faculty details (copy and paste Faculty ID as required).
- Then fill in student details if applicable.
- For each theme, you can create a new activity (up to 5 activities per theme).
- Upload necessary files (e.g., videos, photos, documents) and save your draft.
- Preview the application and submit it.
- Multiple applications for different themes are allowed (up to 5 per institute).

- Photographs related to the interventions/programs (with geotagging/screen properties; maximum 20; Format: PDF, Maximum Size: 5 MB).
- Media Coverage:
- Clippings or screenshots of media coverage (print/electronic media; Format: PDF, Maximum Size: 5 MB).
- Video Submission:
- A high-resolution video (up to 4-5 minutes; Format: Video, Maximum Size: 150 MB).
- Declaration:
