The Boarding House Stipend Scheme, introduced by the Tribal Welfare Department of the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura, is designed to improve the educational scenario among Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities. Its key objectives are:
- To provide accommodation for ST boys and girls from remote areas by offering hostel facilities.
- To ensure that ST students residing more than 3 km from their school have access to residential facilities.
- To help reduce the dropout rate among ST students by alleviating accommodation-related challenges.
Benefits
- Stipend Amount:
- A boarding house stipend of ₹65 per day per student is provided.
- This amount includes an LPG subsidy, sweeping, and cleaning allowance of ₹1 per day per student.
- Duration:
- The stipend is provided for 322 days (approximately 10 months) in an academic year.
- Target Group:
- Students from Class I to Class XII who are accommodated in government-run hostels and approved NGO-run boarding houses are eligible.
Types of Hostels
The scheme covers various types of hostels under the Tribal Welfare Department:
- State Government-run ST Hostels: 161 (Boys: 100, Girls: 61)
- TTAADC-run ST Hostels: 43
- TTWREIS-run ST Hostels: 8
- NGO-run ST Hostels: 143
Eligibility
- Student Criteria:
- Must be a Scheduled Tribe (ST) boarder studying from Class I to Class XII.
- The student’s residence should be beyond 3 km from the school.
Application Process
Offline Process
- The concerned District Magistrate (DM) or Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) will collect the list of eligible students from government-run hostels and approved NGO-run boarding houses.
- This list is then sent to the Directorate of Tribal Welfare for processing and disbursement of the stipend.
