Launched on 1st January 2008 by the Department of Women & Child Development, the Delhi Ladli Scheme aims to empower girl children born in Delhi by promoting their education and ensuring financial security. The scheme also supports birth registration, helps control female foeticide, and strives to improve the sex ratio by providing financial assistance in the form of term deposits managed by State Bank Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (SBIL).

Benefits

The scheme provides financial assistance through term deposits at various stages:

  • At Birth:
    • Institutional Delivery: ₹11,000 (if the girl is born in a hospital)
    • Home Delivery: ₹10,000 (if delivered at home)
  • Educational Milestones:
    • On Admission in Class 1st: ₹5,000
    • On Admission in Class 6th: ₹5,000
    • On Admission in Class 9th: ₹5,000
    • On Passing Class 10th: ₹5,000
    • On Admission in Class 12th: ₹5,000

The final maturity amount will vary based on the stage at which the girl is registered under the scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Birth & Residency:
    • The girl must be born in Delhi, as evidenced by the birth certificate issued by the Registrar (Births & Deaths) of MCD/NDMC.
    • The applicant (or the girl’s parents) must be bona fide residents of Delhi for at least three years preceding the girl’s birth.
  • Income:
    • The annual family income should not exceed ₹1,00,000.
  • Schooling:
    • For school-going girls, the school must be recognized by the Delhi Government/MCD/NDMC.
  • Family Limit:
    • The benefits are limited to two surviving girl children per family.

Application Process

Offline Application:

  1. Obtain Application Form:
    • The prescribed form can be obtained from the respective District Women and Child Development Officer or from government-recognized schools.

  2. Submission:
    • Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the required documents to the concerned District Office.
    • For school-going girls, the form must be submitted within 90 days of admission; for newly born girls, within one year of birth.
