The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for the Wards of Central Armed Police Forces & Assam Rifles (CAPFs & AR) was introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India in 2006-07. It aims to encourage higher technical & professional education for the dependent wards & widows of CAPFs & Assam Rifles personnel.

Number of Scholarships:

  • 2000 Scholarships per year (1000 for boys & 1000 for girls)
  • Renewal cases of previous years will be additional

Benefits

  • ₹3,000 per month for girls (₹36,000 per year)
  • ₹2,500 per month for boys (₹30,000 per year)
  • Duration: Up to 5 years, depending on course duration

Eligibility

  • Wards/Widows of deceased CAPFs & Assam Rifles personnel who died in harness/election duty
  • Wards of ex-CAPFs & AR personnel disabled due to service-related reasons
  • Wards of Gallantry Award recipients
  • Wards/Widows of retired and serving CAPFs & AR personnel (Personnel Below Officer Rank)
  • First professional degree courses in Engineering, Medicine, BBA, BCA, B. Pharma, B.Sc (Nursing, Agriculture, etc.), MBA, MCA
  • Minimum 60% in previous qualification (10+2/Diploma/Graduation)
  • Renewal requires 50% marks every year

Order of Preference

  1. Category-A: Wards/Widows of CAPFs & AR personnel killed in action
  2. Category-B: Wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel disabled in action
  3. Category-C: Wards/Widows of CAPFs & AR personnel who died due to service-related reasons
  4. Category-D: Wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel disabled in service
  5. Category-E: Wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel Gallantry Award winners
  6. Category-F: Wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel (PBOR)
  7. Category-G: Wards of serving CAPFs & AR personnel (PBOR)

Exclusions

  • Wards of civilian employees of CAPFs, AR & State Police
  • Students pursuing correspondence/distance learning courses
  • Applicants already availing other scholarships
  • Students studying abroad
  • Students changing course/institute after selection
