The Post Graduate Scholarship for GATE/GPAT Qualified Students is an initiative by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Ministry of Education to support and encourage students who have qualified GATE/GPAT to pursue M.Tech, M.E., and M.Pharm programs (including integrated dual degree courses) in Central, State, Deemed, and Private Universities.
The objective of the scheme is to attract and assist bright graduate students in pursuing post-graduate education in technical and pharmaceutical fields.
Benefits
- Monthly Scholarship: ₹12,400 per month per student.
- Annual Contingency Grant: ₹5,000 per year.
- Duration: The scholarship is available for the entire duration of the course (up to 24 months).
Important Notes:
- If a student scores below 60% in any semester, the scholarship for that semester will be reduced to ₹1,550. However, if the student reappears for the semester and scores above 60%, the full scholarship of ₹12,400 per month will be restored.
- The contingency grant can be used for educational materials, but all non-consumable items purchased will remain the property of the university.
- No house rent allowance (HRA) is provided.
- Students cannot take up any paid assignments, jobs, or additional stipends during the tenure of the scholarship.
- Scholars are required to contribute 8 to 10 hours per week to academic activities such as teaching assistance, laboratory maintenance, research activities, or other assignments.
- If the scholar fails in any semester, the scholarship will be terminated immediately.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have qualified GATE/GPAT.
- Must be admitted as a full-time student in an M.E., M.Tech., or M.Pharm course at a recognized Central, State, Deemed, or Private University.
- Foreign students are NOT eligible.
- Students who pass GATE during their second year of study (from 3rd semester onwards) are NOT eligible.
- SC/ST/OBC/PH reservation policy of the Government of India will be strictly followed.

- After admission, the University must submit the online claim for the first semester via the UGC online portal: www.ugc.ac.in
- Upload the GATE/GPAT Score Card and other necessary documents.
- The university must certify that the student is not claiming financial assistance from AICTE or any other sources.

- Visit the Canara Bank UGC Scholarship Portal: https://scholarship.canarabank.in/scholar/Login.aspx
- Click on “Register” and fill in Student ID, Date of Birth, and Registered Email ID (same as provided by the university).
- Set up a password and confirm registration.
- Login to the Scholar’s Corner to check scholarship disbursement status.

- UGC will verify claims and release funds via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- The first-semester scholarship is paid in full.
- Scholarships for subsequent semesters will be released after submission of results and grant utilization reports.
