National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities (NFPwD) – M.Phil. and Ph.D. Students

Introduced by the Government of India in 2012–13, the National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities (NFPwD) aims to improve chances for higher education for people with disabilities. Students seeking M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees at universities or institutions accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are supported under this program.

The fellowship is based on merit and calls for a current disability certificate issued by a qualified authority. Under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the University Grants Commission (UGC) carries out this program on behalf of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).

Benefits

The fellowship provides the following financial assistance:
Junior Research Fellow (JRF): ₹ 31,000 per month
Senior Research Fellow (SRF): ₹ 35,500 per month
Contingency Grant:

  • Humanities & Social Sciences: ₹ 10,000 (JRF) / ₹ 20,500 (SRF) per annum
  • Science, Engineering & Technology: ₹ 12,000 (JRF) / ₹ 25,000 (SRF) per annum
