The awards shall be made by the Dean and Joint Director (Education) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) on the advice of the Standing Committee on Scholarships, Financial Assistance, and Academic Progress. The selection is based initially on the applicant’s admission and later on their academic performance at the Post Graduate School.
Duration
- The normal duration of junior scholarships (M.Sc.) is two years.
- The normal duration of senior scholarships (Ph.D.) is three years.
- Extensions in exceptional cases:
- M.Sc.: Up to three months.
- Ph.D.: Up to six months.
- SC/ST/PC students: Up to six months (M.Sc.) and one year (Ph.D.).
- Students who take introductory agricultural courses in their first year at IARI receive an additional one-year scholarship.
- The scholarships are awarded initially for one academic year and renewed based on academic performance.
- M.Sc. students: Maximum scholarship duration three years and three months.
- Ph.D. students: Maximum scholarship duration four years and six months.
- Scholarship payment is reviewed at the end of the third trimester. Students must maintain:
- OGPA of 6.50/10.00 for scholarship renewal.
- Minimum OGPA of 6.00/10.00 to continue in Post Graduate School.
Benefits
- M.Sc. Scholarship: ₹7,560/- per month.
- Ph.D. Scholarship: ₹10,500/- per month.
- Contingent grant per academic year:
- ₹6,000/- for M.Sc. students.
- ₹10,000/- for Ph.D. students.
- Covers experimental materials, books, thesis, and study tours.
- The scholarship amount covers fees and other charges.
- Extension period: Scholarship continues if an extension is granted.
Scholarship for In-Service Candidates/Departmental Students
- ICAR norms apply for M.Sc./Ph.D. students on deputation/study leave.
- If receiving study allowance/full leave salary, a maximum of ₹3,000/- per month will be provided in addition to the leave salary.
- Contingent grants remain applicable.
- Candidates without JRF/SRF but on partial salary may receive ₹3,000/- per month.
Eligibility
For M.Sc./M.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering only) Courses:
- Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree under:
- 10+2+4, 10+2+3, or 10+1+4 system.
- B.Sc. degree under 10+2+2 system (prior to 1985).
For Ph.D. Courses:
- Candidates must have:
- 60% marks OR OGPA of 7.50/10.00 OR equivalent CGPA.
- SC/ST/PC candidates: 55% marks OR OGPA of 7.00/10.00.
- No conversion of OGPA into percentage allowed.
- Scholarships are available only to Indian nationals.
- The fellow must be a full-time student and cannot accept another paid appointment.
Age Limit:
- Minimum age for Ph.D. admission: 21 years (as of July 31st of the admission year).
- No relaxation in age limit.
