The Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child is a scholarship programme initiated by the UGC to provide financial support to girl students who happen to be the only child in their family and are pursuing postgraduate studies. The scholarship supports the education of single girl children by compensating directly incurred cost of education.
Benefits
- ₹36,200 per year for two years, that is the entire tenure of the PG course.
Scholarship: 3,000 new scholarships will be given each year.
Payment By : Scholarship shall be paid annually through DBT by depositing it to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Eligibility
Nationality: The beneficiary must be a citizen of India.
Family Status: The applicant should be the only girl child in the family., Girls without brothers or twin daughters/fraternal daughters are also eligible.
Age Limit: The applicant should not exceed 30 years of age as on date of admission to first year of PG.
Course Enrollment: The applicant should be enrolled for a regular, full-time first-year Master’s Degree course in a recognized university or postgraduate college.
Non-professional Course: Scheme is available only for non-professional courses.
Distance Education: Candidates studying through Distance Education mode are not eligible.
Exclusions
Distance Education: Candidates pursuing PG courses through Distance Education mode are not eligible.
Deemed Universities: Institutions that do not receive grants from the Central or State Government are not eligible under the scheme.
Family Status: If the family has one son and one daughter, then the girl child will not be considered for the scholarship.
Application Process
Step 1: Eligible candidates are required to apply online on the National Scholarship Portal once the application process is started and notice is published on the UGC website.
Step 2: The host institution should verify the online application.
Step 3: It is expected that no tuition fees will be charged by the institute to the girl students pursuing the PG course.
