Launched under the National Jute Board Act, 2008, this scheme aims to enhance the welfare of workers in jute-producing units by supporting the education of their girl children. The initiative is designed as a Workers’ Welfare measure to provide financial incentives for girl children of workers in Jute Mills and MSME units (JDP units) engaged in jute production. By offering scholarships upon passing Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations, the scheme seeks to encourage education, promote women empowerment, and reduce worker attrition in the industry.
Objectives
- Financial Incentive for Education:
To provide financial support to girl children of jute mill and MSME workers upon passing their Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations, ensuring they acquire the minimum education needed to be employable. - Reduce Worker Attrition:
To motivate workers to remain in the jute industry by offering welfare measures that benefit their families. - Enhance Worker Satisfaction:
To improve the relationship between mill management and workers by providing tangible support for the education of their daughters. - Promote Women Empowerment:
To support women empowerment through education.
Benefits
- Secondary Education Scholarship:
₹5,000 for girl children who pass the Secondary examination. - Higher Secondary Education Scholarship:
₹10,000 for girl children who pass the Higher Secondary examination.
Eligibility
- Target Beneficiaries:
The scheme is applicable to the girl children of workers in Jute Mills and MSME – JDP units engaged in the production of jute products. - Examination Years:
Scholarships are available for candidates passing out the examinations in the academic sessions 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26, covering a total period of five years (15th Finance Commission period). - Family Limit:
A maximum of 2 girl children per family can avail of the benefit.
Application Process
Offline
- Application Scrutiny by Jute Mills/JDP Units:
- The concerned Jute Mill or JDP unit shall scrutinize and verify the applications, certifying that the information provided is correct by signing and stamping the application form.
- For Jute Mills, a copy of the current pay slip of the worker must be attached.
- For JDP units, a copy of the worker’s ESI (Identity Certificate) must be enclosed.
- Forwarding the Application:
After verification and certification, the application is forwarded to IJMA or through other authorized institutions as approved by the Monitoring Committee (MC).
Documents Required
- Academic Documents:
- Admit Card for the examination passed
- Mark Sheet of the examination passed
- Certificate issued by the Board/Council or the Controller of Examination
- Identity Proof:
- Aadhaar Card or Voter ID of the applicant
- Bank Details:
- Copy of the Bank Passbook (the bank account must be Aadhaar linked)
- Worker Verification:
- The current month’s pay slip of the worker (for Jute Mill applicants)
- ESI Identity Certificate of the worker (for JDP Unit applicants)
- Declaration:
- A declaration/affidavit stating that the applicant has not claimed or received any similar scholarship/financial benefit from State/Central Government departments. (Note: A false declaration will lead to recovery of the scholarship amount from both the applicant and the concerned Jute Mill/JDP unit.)
