This scheme aims at bettering the life of artists and their families, the cultural heritage of Assam, and to foster creativity in artists and technicians.
Objectives
- To support artists and their families who have made outstanding contributions to the cultural heritage of Assam.
- To provide monthly pensions and one-time financial assistance to ensure better livelihoods for artists and their families.
- To encourage artistic pursuits and uphold Assam’s rich cultural legacy.
Benefits
- Artist Pension Scheme: ₹8,000/- per month for eligible artists.
- Family Pension Scheme: ₹4,000/- per month for indigent families of artists.
- Barxik Silpi Sanman (Ex-Gratia Grant) Scheme: ₹50,000/- (one-time financial assistance).
- One-time Special Financial Assistance to Families of Deceased Artists Scheme: ₹50,000/- (one-time financial assistance).
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam.
- Artists who have made significant contributions in fields such as:

- Amateur Theatre
- Films
- Indigent families of artists who contributed to Assam’s cultural heritage are also eligible.

Award is given every two years.
3. Who is eligible for the Gomant Vibhushan Award?
People who belong to Goan origin, with exceptional accomplishments in their self-chosen specialization at a national or international level are eligible for the award.
4. Are posthumous awards delivered under this scheme?
No. However, in case the individual, having been recommended, passes away after that, then the award may be granted posthumously.
5. Is a recipient entitled to the award more than once?
No, people cannot be conferred upon Gomant Vibhushan Award more than once.
6. What benefits the Awardees?
Award recipients get Memento, Citation and a financial purse of ₹5,00,000/-,
7. Are there upper and lower limits for nominees.
There are no upper or lower age limit criteria on which is fixed for nominator as mentioned.
8. The nominee being goan is found recognition in overseas?
Yes even the goans residing outside but recognition received elsewhere still are eligible if he meet all other above mentioned conditions also.
9. Can one nominate oneself?
No. The scheme mandates recommending someone.
10. What in case no suitable candidate is identified in a particular year?
The award will not be awarded if no suitable candidate is available for the award cycle.
